History of the Falken

"We Falken bow to no One."

That is our greatest saying and motto. Yet even when we had reasons to be a proud people, we never show it. We're just glad of being who we are.

We Falken are simple people, tribal to your understanding, but we know your ways and what you call "better". We have chosen the simplicity of our lives while we keep developing our knowledge with silent devotion and patience. As the old and mighty Falcon's that patrol the peaks and valleys of our ancestral home, we watch in silence the depths of the worlds and the endless horizon.

Yet I cannot mention our chosen way of life without telling you the reasons of why we choose to live like that, no in primitive state but in a way, mingled on the nature. It was because we learn a valuable lesson, paid with an immense price. Our freedom was won, and our motto forged, with the lives of half a planet...

Old Gods

Even when our connection to the majestic birds of our homeland, theres another creature that left a mark on our history. You call them Dragons. The Old Gods came to us one day, after we showed our resilience against four almost simultaneous attacks against our people, from four other nations. They introduced themselves to us, promising their protection and nourishment. They did. The Old Ones were good at the beginning, but soon, a mutual contamination took over both sides. We set to conquer not only our old rivals, but half the world. We were the dominant force. And they, soon they saw us as slaves of their wild. Maybe it was them who actually created that conqueror spirit on the ancestors.

Restrained Wings

Anyway, soon, and because of their help and the knowledge, power and support of the Old Ones, the teachers became masters and later gods to be revered. It wasn't until they start demanding our souls that we realized how wrong the entire thing was. And so, after our declines they leaved our side, just to appear in shadows, manipulation and conspiring against us. And so, began the War. It ravaged the land and subdued our people, and so a harsh and forced peace began.

Abuses and violent repression made what was the greatest of countries on our world to enter a decline, but it held as it could, for a few more years. But this gave us more courage to actually fight for our freedom. And it was then when the Revolt happened. With great pain and sacrifice we managed to destroy half of them, yet we could drive them back. Tired and wounded, we retreated back to our homeland and there we lived as we used to do.

But then, the Old Gods started with the "Purifications". A systematic butchering of our people. Little we could do without beginning a new war, but then it happened, when the last purification was took place, that messages started to come out from the lands outside our homeland that we conquered in the past. These messages weren't strange, as for the purification periods, people used to send messages to relatives around our lands to check on their families and find out if the death toll had reached them. A creepy and horrible reality that was, yet, as I just said, the worst was yet to come.

The Last War

But we remembered...

We remembered the Falcons of our homeland, lords of their own Destiny, and their freedom, and we embraced them again, remembering who we were and that when we faced those four nations our spirit was born, we wouldn't bow to no kings or fake gods.

It happened that the last Purification took half of our people. Million's disappeared. It was unexplainable. The Old Gods went too far. But why? They had us in control. Yet control wasn't what they needed. During the Revolt, we managed to close the gateways from where then once came. This apparently not only cut them from reinforcements... but also from the energy they feed from.

So it was that the Old Ones needed from where to feed, and had no other source of food than our souls. The Last War began when this was revealed, and so it was that we Falken fought for Freedom... and SURVIVAL.

Victory and Demise

Our elders tell of how they remember the tears of their own grandparents when they used to tell them the tale of the Falken people, ultimate victory. It cost us dearly, because everyone that was capable of handling weapons was recruited, from young to old, only the most ancient and unable of men and the small child were left on the cities. No mothers, no fathers, farmers or smiths stayed home. We definitely lost anything outside our homeland. Only our country stood, hiding between the peaks of the mountains and the waterfalls of the Valley of Wings.

Battle of Falcon's Point

And so the remaining forces of each side meet one last time. It was there, at my own home where it happened. At Falcon's Point. The peak used to be crowned with a huge tower and castle. Now a few stones stand there. Casting a shadow of memory over our tents. It ended right there. I grew up amongst the ruins. The last of the Old Golds fell was slain and feel over the Skybridge that connected Falcon's Point with the sacred burial peak in front of the keep. The creature fell to the river and died there, turning itself into a stone that to this day rests at the bottom of the good named, Dragonblood's River.

Peace and Freedom

And so it was, that our people stayed humble and unbound. Our wisdom was paid with blood and theres nothing more valuable than that for us. We have library and technology enough to reconquer all that was lost, but we don't want it. Other kind of wealth we seek for now, calmly with the winds of peace that are similar to the beautiful breeze that whispers as it passes between the canyon and mountains of homeland. It was in that time that I was born. As I said I always roamed amongst the ruins of the past. There I have a small patch of flowers I like to see grow. I liked to train my martial skills there, as well to read the books of many sciences that the elder gave us, so we could become useful to the people. I was about to become someone back them, even has an apprentice, when you reach your 14's you already are an active member of the society. I still wonder if I could have made my mother proud and gave honor to the memory of my father...

A Shadow of the Past

But, I lived a different life. The worst thing is that I loved the lesson's of the past. I suppose, I can't blame myself much. HE, fooled me, deceived me and... a friend. The rest of the ones that found HIM, I'm sure they realized, but it seems that, like me, they wanted something inside their hearts that they could reach. And HE used that to his advantage, and they acknowledge him and didn't repent for the sins we were commanded to commit. It still haunts me, like HIS presence follows me everywhere, and I know they do too.
